About Novasentis
Novasentis is the leading supplier of the world’s thinnest and most flexible polymer-based haptic actuators. The patented electro-mechanical polymer (EMP) technology and products are ideal for creating rich haptic feedback and a completely new user experience for smart watches, AR/VR, gaming controllers, and similar human interface applications. Founded in 2006 to commercialize this unique EMP technology, Novasentis was restructured in 2015 to focus on these markets. Novasentis received D series funding in early 2018, an investment made by key manufacturing partner, Kemet. It is privately held and headquartered in Berkeley, California with research facilities State College, PA, and partner facilities in Europe. Position Description
In this Senior Electrical Engineering (EE) position (ideal degrees in EE), you will develop test platforms, from custom board level design to integrated systems. The ideal candidate will be capable of custom circuit development from idea to prototype. This EE will be able to drive chip designers who are building our power driver electronics. You will design, build, troubleshoot, test, validate and benchmark complete solutions to characterize actuator performance both electrically and mechanically. You will also provide expertise to develop and manage solutions for data collection and analysis of actuator performance. The ideal candidate has a broad knowledge of product development including hardware, firmware, and software. You will be comfortable working in an environment that uses Matlab and LabVIEW.
You will also work with others to perform extensive data analyitics on actuator performance using data from our functional test system, including designing, building, testing and rolling out to customers our COTS DAQ systems (NI cards, chassis, integration, testing, trouble-shooting system issues). Updating and improving this system with novel approaches to are central to this position.
The ideal candidate will have experience in a research environment and be comfortable working to characterize electronic components for electrical and mechanical performance, characterizing and evaluating product reference designs for customer demonstrations and prototypes. Additionally, you will provide expertise to develop and manage solutions for data collection and analysis of haptic actuator characterization, supporting applications in wearables, augmented reality, virtual reality, and gaming devices. The ideal candidate has a broad knowledge in scientific method and experimentation while leveraging hardware, firmware, and software. The job may require travel to visit customers with Sales, Marketing and other team members, primarily to customers based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Position Description
In this Technician position, you will work with Novasentis engineers to perform electrical and mechanical functions, including: 1) characterize our actuators with our test system, 2) build (wire and assemble components), troubleshoot and operate the test systems, 3) develop new testing protocols and modifications to testing protocols and 4) perform maintenance on tools (3D printer, prototype lab, solder stations, tooling, chemical baths, etc.) to keep the lab running smoothly.
To develop testing protocols and to characterize actuators with those protocols, the senior technician will replicate and modify test system hardware and software. The technician must be confortable with National Instruments COTS DAQ systems, controlled using LabVIEW. As energizing waveforms and protocols are developed in Matlab, the ideal candidate will excel working in a dynamic environment that uses COTS hardware, Matlab and LabVIEW. This position will work with fixtures used to test the actuators and will be responsible for testing, trouble-shooting, and reporting system issues. Collected data from our system is analyzed in Matlab, so to stand out, the exceptional candidate will provide support to the research engineers beyond collecting data, by providing thoughtful analyses and reports.
You will build, troubleshoot, test and validate components used to characterize actuator performance both electrically and mechanically. This position benefits from having a broad knowledge of instrumentation development including hardware, firmware, and software. Candidates capable of creative and innovative problem solving, updating and improving the test systems with novel approaches are sought for this position.
The ideal candidate will have experience in a research environment and be comfortable working in a rapidly evolving work setting. This position will assist Novasentis’s Research and Development group meet the challenges of developing techniques to characterize electronic components for electrical and mechanical performance, characterizing and evaluating product reference designs for customer demonstrations and prototypes, supporting applications in wearables, augmented reality, virtual reality, and gaming devices. The ideal candidate has a broad knowledge in experimentation while leveraging Novasentis’ existing hardware, firmware, and software.
